I work with 18 high energy third graders. They come bouncing into the classroom every day ready to learn. They enjoy sharing their favorite things and weekend activities with each other. Throughout the school year they have increased their ability to explain their thinking in academic ways. These conversations have lifted the level of student talk as well as increased the learning of all students. Their enthusiasm for learning new things is inspiring and their perseverance is admirable.
These remarkable third graders encourage each other and recognize each others feelings every day.
Their social emotional growth has astounded me. I can always count on them to make sure no one is feeling down and that everyone always has a partner or someone to play with at recess. Being in tune with what their classmates are feeling has allowed for all of my students to feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings throughout the day.
My Project
The 18 third grade students in my classroom spend a lot of their learning time in chairs. We need resources to provide the best learning environment possible to maximize their learning opportunities. Research shows that students need to feel comfortable in their environment in order to be able to fully engage in the learning process.
All students are different and learn in their own ways.
Some of my students enjoy using stools when they are available or laying on the ground or using benches that were built for the classroom. Having Bouncy Bands and Kore Chairs available for them to use would greatly improve their ability to focus and get their work done. The addition of the Core Balance Cushion would help some of them learn and focus while still being able to move around in their seats. The Peanut balls and Donut balls would allow students more flexibility during reading times to be in a position they find most comfortable.
