This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Nelson Mandela once stated, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." I strive everyday to prepare my students to be world changers by providing access to the best possible classroom resources.

My students are, in one word, amazing.

They are faced with some of life's biggest challenges as mere fifth graders. As some of the strongest students I know, they continue to push themselves to "grow their brains" no matter what. They are on the path to and through college and they understand the importance of being an advocate for their own education.

My Project

Showing students that teachers of all subjects read books is really important. I am requesting this collection of books because I want to be able to provide my students with opportunities to interact with high-quality books even when they are sitting in my math classroom.

My students love to check out books from my room, as we do not have a school library.

Currently, I do not have many books about history, geography or different cultures. I am requesting a plethora of National Geographic books that explore countries such as Mexico, Australia and Japan. I am also requesting several books that explore holidays and religions of different people around the globe.

Classrooms should be rich with diverse books. I am requesting several books that highlight significant women in history including "She Persisted" and "Who Was Frida Kahlo?" to inspire more girls in my classroom to follow in their footsteps. Teachers must choose texts with the students in mind and these books are all very carefully chosen for my current students. I have several students currently struggling with loss of siblings and am also requesting the titles, "Ida, Always" and "Option B" as supports to use in the classroom.
