Our elementary students grow and learn at a Pre K-5 rural elementary school. Being in a rural community, we would like to bring opportunities that they may not be exposed to otherwise. They are wonderful children who are eager to expand their experiences and minds. We are partners in our journey through the years they spend with us.
Being a part of their journey, I have learned from my many years of teaching that students need to be connected to what they are learning.
In "The Beautiful Game," my students will have the necessary supplies to have a better experience when they play soccer during recess. As of right now, my students try to organize themselves into teams, but it is hard to differentiate which person is on which team. Our soccer goals are missing the nets so when they kick a goal, my students have to chase after it. They have made imaginary boundaries, but from day to day the boundaries change and at times cause strife. By having the goals, the team vests, and the mesh equipment bags, my students will be able to play the "beautiful game!"
"The best kids are going to become the best, but the best thing about it is that you're going to learn lessons in playing those sports about winning and losing and teamwork and teammates and arguments and everything else that are going to affect you positively for the rest of your life," a quote attributed to Olympian Carl Lewis and I believe by working together outside of the classroom will greatly impact what they do inside the classroom.
