My Students

The students at my school come from a very small, rural, farming community about 40 minutes away from the nearest city in Monroe County, Wisconsin. They are a diverse, yet excited bunch. Our school is a Title I school where most children receive free or reduced priced lunch and every student gets a free breakfast every day.

However, this does not stop them from wanting to explore and learn new things in a fun way.

My students thrive on hands-on learning. They want their lessons to be fun and exciting in all subjects including music.

My Project

My students need an Alto Xylophone to help them apply and reinforce musical concepts, that they have learned throughout their elementary music education. Learning skills and applying them to a xylophone can easily be transferred to keyboard and other pitched percussion instruments. My younger students will be able to play, identify and practice the difference between high and low pitches. This will help them build a strong foundation for composing activities once they reach the older grade levels.

It can also help them work on teamwork and perseverance.

My students will use the xylophone to compose and accompany songs of their choice and then perform them for their classmates and parents during a concert.
