Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember being in first grade and being very eager to learn and grow as a student? My classroom is a high-poverty classroom. I have strict limits on the supplies that I am given.
My first grade students are attending a public school in Colorado.
The majority of my students are Hispanic and African American coming from a lower socio-economic status. Many of my students are English Language Learners. My students are a mix of at grade level or below grade level. The students are excited about learning and reading.
My Project
Many school supplies are taken for granted. My classroom is a high-poverty classroom so I have strict limits on the supplies that I am given. My students are in need of dry erase markers and page protectors. We use dry erase markers and sheet protectors everyday in math, literacy, and our writing. My students are in the beginning stages of writing. The students use white boards and page protectors everyday to practice writing with me in a shared writing time. Giving them the opportunity to write with me helps them grow as writers. Sheet protectors are used everyday in my instruction. Since we have strict limits on supplies, I reuse many worksheets or game boards by putting them in sheet protectors. Having the students' games in sheet protectors and giving them the opportunity to use a dry eraser allows them to be more hands-on with their learning.
