My Students
My students attend a Title I charter school in Houston, Texas where nearly 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Despite facing hardships and adversity, my students are committed to becoming high school ready, college bound, are eager to learn, and always give one hundred percent.
Many of our students, teachers, and staff lost many things during Hurricane Harvey.
While our community has experienced so much devastation as a result of Hurricane Harvey, our students have a determination to succeed.
My Project
All too often, it becomes easy for teachers to overlook why students may come to school and/or class unprepared. Being equipped and prepared with supplies will leave the students motivated and invested in their education.
When students are motivated, there is no limit to what they can accomplish.
Instead of focusing on the fact that a student may have various reasons why they do not have the basic supplies, I am seeking to give them access to basic supplies. Pens and pencils will ensure that work is complete. Lysol wipes and paper towels will keep them in a clean environment. Post-Its will help with annotations. All of the supplies will be placed where students can directly access, thus lessening the gaps that they may have. This gives us the opportunity to spend more class-time on academic tasks.
