My All-Stars have demonstrated a love for learning new things and being creative. Although my students have this love of learning and exploration, my school is unable to provide technology at their fingertips to feed their hunger. They come to school eager with excitement to learn new things. Their curiosity is outstanding and keeps us on our toes. It is unfortunate to have so many students with their willingness to learn to have setbacks keeping them from being the absolute best that they wish to be. Incorporating research into our daily instruction has done wonders for my students pushing themselves to their full potential but we are often caught at a standstill with limited resources and technology.
My Project
My students are switching roles! They are becoming the "pilots" of their learning and it is amazing. Sitting at your desk and listening to a robot is out of the window. If flying a plane without the necessary resources is frowned upon, why should my students be limited in their learning due to the lack of resources?
The donations to this project will help fund the "pilots" of our future.
My students will use these laptops to research information about their selected research topics throughout the school year. We have incorporated 3rd grade standards in a unit involving research and the kids are overjoyed. The eight research questions will assist in obtaining the needed information to author their on books. As an extension, students will create audio clips to go long with their created novels so they can tell their own stories as we work towards being fluent readers. These laptops will lay a strong foundation in the future of our nation; as well as, bridge the gap between their intrigued minds and the information needed to complete their books.
