My students need books that will pique their interest and encourage them to read, including Charlotte's Web, Esperanza Rising, and The One and Only Ivan.
My students show an early excitement for reading. They thrive on finding good books and spreading out around the room to read them. Each day the students look forward to the few sessions that they are able to read to themselves or a partner.
The students in my classroom come from all over the world.
They are military kids and come to the classroom ready to meet new people and learn new things. Reading is one of the constants in their lives and many find it so enjoyable that it is hard to get them to put their books down. They love to read and have brought book suggestions to me and other classmates.
My Project
With the books donated to the classroom, students will be able to further their reading fluency and comprehension. They will be using the books on a daily basis to motivate them to become better readers. They will use the books to read to themselves, to a partner, and as a class.
Having a bigger and better selections of books in the classroom will enable me to better suggest to students what books to read.
They will also see the number of books and see that it is a key part of what goes on the classroom. As students improve their reading skills, they will be better prepared for their futures and more capable of accomplishing their goals. Reading is what will teach my students when I am no longer there. It is essential that I keep the fire burning inside them to read.
