Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagination and information are the cornerstones of great learning. This project will allow the students at my school to use both as they create art projects.
I have a wonderful group of first grade students who are very diverse in their skills.
Like the rest of my school, my students are primarily English language learners. I have some students who can sound out words, while others are still working on letter recognition. However, despite the differences in academic skills, all of my students are creative! I want to tap into their creativity with the help of the Disney CREATE Grant.
My Project
One of our school's goals is to create a portable iPad lab so that our students can learn about and explore their creativity. This project will be implemented immediately upon funding. For this lab, I am asking for an iPad mini with protective case, cover, and a stylus pen. We will use the iPad lab to meet VAPA standard 2.8, which has students create artwork based on observations of actual objects and everyday scenes. The write and wipe boards and markers will be with the iPad lab and allow students to sketch their ideas before creating masterpieces to take home and share with their families. The name tags will be available in our workroom, so we are prepared when new students arrive. The create your own calendars will be a place for students to let their imaginations soar and meet VAPA standards 2.4 and 2.6 as they design artwork for each month.
It is my hope that with the help of Disney and other generous donors, the students at my school will be able to participate in this project.
Having these materials available at my school will enhance the learning of all, and allow them to explore their creativity in new ways as they interact with the technology that is often not available at home.
