Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The middle school I teach for is a Title One school where the fine arts are an important part of our student's lives. Many of our 6th-8th grade students speak Spanish, and most of our other students are bilingual and speak Spanish/ English. Between the two art teachers, we teach close to 400 of our 600 students at our school. We have added a Pre-AP art class this year, as well as 4 sculpture classes! Our students LOVE art!
Between the two art teachers, we constantly strive to give our students the very best. We do fundraisers, we look for various grants, and numerous other interesting opportunities to provide to our students. Many of our students would never get to use the supplies we offer to them, or go on the field trips we earn for them without the generous contributions of donors like yourself.
I would love to see a small copy machine in our department which would allow us to make copies of permission slips, make labels for their pieces of art that are displayed, to give them information for their handmade sketchbooks and make handouts for them. Our department is far away from a copy machine in our school and we feel that it would save us much time to be able to get the information to our students if we could do it in our own department. We found out last year, that using Avery labels make our student's artwork much more professional, and give them the ownership of their pieces. It allows them to fill them out with their information and place them on the poster board which the project is mounted on when it is completed. They love to feel that ownership and were asking for the labels last year. It put the stamp of completion on their project.
This desk-size copy machine, and the labels and paper to go with it, will give not only this year's students a great advantage for getting information more quickly and efficiently, but it will do the same for many future students as well. This is indeed an investment for our art program and something we would not be able to afford with our limited art budget. You can make a great difference in our program.
