The Art of Writing: Getting Students to Write and Understand
My students need the magnetic story board and words to create sentences and stories. My students need the Sound It Out puzzle and CVC center due to my high amount of ESOL kids.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do kids know how to write anymore? Well, not really. Many things are done electronically these days and gone are the days of handwriting and putting sentences together. By the end of the year, my kids need to be writing three to five paragraphs, while most of mine can hardly articulate a full sentence.
Ninety of my class and the majority of our school is made up of students that English is not their first language.
I currently have two students that moved from Puerto Rico two months before school started. My kids want to read and they want to write, but it is incredibly difficult for them understand how to put things together. My students are incredible and show great interest in reading and writing facts and reading nonfiction books. Many of my students ask me if they can take their pencil home to do their homework as supplies at home are limited. Reading and writing and understanding sounds are crucial to my students and their learning.
My Project
My students will use these resources during centers and with me at my small group table. The magnetic story board, words and centers will be very useful as my kids love to use their hands and move things around. Sometimes the only way to keep the kids engaged is to have them moving their hands and moving things around. My students really do love to write, but they don't understand the "how" or the "why" and I believe these resources will help my students stay engaged and to help put their sentences together to create stories.
If you donate to this project, you will be helping many children for years learn and understand the sounds that make up the words and then use the words to create sentences and stories.
There are so many kids out there that are struggling readers and struggling writers. I'm trying to keep the writing alive with this generation and many to come. Understanding how sounds make the words and the words make the sentences is super important for these kids.
