My students need LEGO bricks to encourage open-ended building play, and inspire imagination. They will be using LEGO pieces as an alternative way to express and create art and illuminate sophisticated and complex STEAM concepts.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a low socio-economic school where most of my students predominantly speak Spanish. My students are at varying levels of academic ability. Parents do their best to help at home but most of them do not speak the language.
They are striving their hardest to learn as much as they can considering the obstacles they face and most importantly they come to school eager to learn.
Our school is a Title I school with a majority of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
My Project
My fabulous first graders have had a rocky start to their school year after hurricane Irma hit our city and then hurricane Maria devastated homes of families in Puerto Rico and thus many were forced to be displaced in our community. I am making it my mission to have this year be a memorable and effective learning experience for all. My goal for this project is to obtain LEGOS to create centers to engage my students’ young minds so they can learn through hands-on STEAM activities. It will enable them to develop creativity, planning and design skills. As an example, my students will utilize engineering skills by creating a design in their mind of their own interests and motivation. They will be actively learning through tactile experiences how pieces fit together to create 3D shapes. The materials are sturdy and durable enough for their little hands and are safe and reusable. Having these LEGOS in the classroom will enable them to engage in opportunities that narrow the achievement gap in preparation for school success.
After losing everything, I am making it my mission to have this year be a memorable and effective learning experience for all.
I want to create a project that allows students to discover their creative identity. I am requesting these Lego sets as a starting place for children to engage their inner child while simultaneously illuminating sophisticated and complex concepts. It also will foster collaboration as teams of students will be working together to build these Lego sets. At the end, students are given the chance to build meaningful artifacts with their own hands that are worthy of display for everyone to admire and most importantly for students to call “their own work of Art.”
Please help this project come to life with your support.
