My students need cardstock and color printing capacity to create collages to actively engage them in learning and celebrate the importance of art to social science!
In our test-driven academic environment, there is too often an exclusive focus on direct instruction, where students are passive recipients of information. But we know- from both research and experience- that students learn best when they're actively engaged and applying their full skill set.
My students are interested, engaged, and well-rounded.
They deserve an academic environment that supports those talents by integrating art and activity into all instruction. Unfortunately, our Social Science department budget is $.45 per student per year, which just doesn't allow for the purchase of luxuries like cardstock and color printers to supplement their work and allow them to produce it in the same vivid color with which they live their lives.
My Project
The simple addition of color, of course, makes everything brighter and more beautiful and interesting. There's a reason interior designers start - and sometimes finish - with paint. It's hard to ask students to find pictures and create collages that are beautiful and then have to tell them they can only print in black and white and we have limited display paper options. My students work hard to create their art and deserve to have it displayed in color.
Do you respond more positively to things in color or things in black and white?
We don't have black and white TVs anymore for a reason. Our schools and students should have the same color production capacity as the rest of the modern world. Thank you for your support!
