Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is nestled in the artsy neighborhood of Silver Lake. My students are inquisitive, creative, and full of questions! They have been instilled a love of learning and welcome challenges that push them to thinking outside the box to find a solution.
They enter the classroom ready for whatever challenge awaits them to learn and grow as a scholar and as an individual.
Each day I invite my students to learn by incorporating a variety of learning strategies and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met. They are truly an incredible group, whom teach me lessons on a daily basis. I am grateful to have a group of learners that are ready excited to be the best scholar who's ready to learn each something new each day!
My Project
Teaching through the arts will present difficult science concepts visually, making them more easy to understand. Students will make observations and drawings of plant life. We will share our drawings and observations as they were drawn through the naked eye. Students will then collect the parts of a plant and draw what they look like under the microscope. The microscope will help them compare what they look like under the naked eye versus under a microscope.
Integrating Visual Art in science will boost critical thinking, teaching students to take the time to be more careful and thorough in how they observe the world.
Making Visual Art part of science will reach students who might not otherwise be engaged in classwork. It will allow them the opportunity to experience and develop their natural, spontaneous explorations of their world into works of art and scientific observations.
This microscope will give students the the tools they need to talk about and describe objects and reflect on their experiences through the visual arts.
