My students need art materials including canvas, glue, sand, and paint to create artistic gifts for their parents.

My students at NW love to learn as they are engaged in learning in the classroom each day. While we are privileged to have classrooms and materials that foster learning, my students could greatly benefit from having materials to create gifts for others to help learn about the joys and importance of giving.
Our urban elementary school is in a high poverty category , with 100% of the students K-6 receiving free breakfast and lunch each day.
Our school is also a Title I funded school. We have the privilege of receiving reading intervention materials and grants that help our students improve reading skills. My students face struggles in their everyday lives, and for many of my students the safest, most reliable place in their lives is school. My students work hard, understand the value of their education, and are eager to learn. My students deserve the very best!
My students will have the privilege to meet a local artist who will walk them through the steps of creating a work of art using his artistic style. The artist that will be visiting our classroom uses sand and paint to create his artwork. Each student will receive a canvas where they will be asked to first sketch any image/shapes for their picture. Next students will use paint/glue/sand combinations to create a work of art. This project will give students a chance to display their artistic abilities and get to know someone from their community that cares greatly about children. The students will be giving their work of art to a family member as a gift to show their generosity and appreciation they have for others. Along with this project we will be having various discussion about why it's important to be kind to people as well as the importance of giving vs. receiving things. A lot of children often think they deserve something and never really focus on learning to be the one giving something to someone else. Please help my children to become generous citizens in their community.
