My Students
I currently work with an energetic group of high school students on the autism spectrum in Houston, Texas. My students are typical teenagers who have a love for technology. They are very energetic and require challenging activities to keep them actively engaged.
Our school is a Title I school, and seventy-eight percent of the students are economically disadvantaged.
Despite the challenges they face on an everyday basis, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My Project
My students love to draw. The materials requested will provide fun and creative ways to tap into their artistic side. Using chalk markers opens up a wealth of present making opportunities, ensuring that my students can create handmade gifts and cards that will be enormously appreciated. My students enjoy creating handmade and seasonal gifts. The markers are versatile, easy to use, and can produce stunning results. Each student has an individual schedule and the markers would be an awesome way of decorating them. They can also jazz up the monthly school menu. The black paper and markers are ideal for giving a touch of realism to games so if the classroom has been turned into a make-believe shop or restaurant, the markers can create realistic menus, price lists, and more. Activities using these materials will foster independence and self-esteem and provide a means of artistic expression.
