Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at my school are incredibly hard-working and so passionate about what they do and the world around them. Many of our students come to us from diverse backgrounds and it creates a beautiful experience in our classrooms for our students to engage with multiple perspectives.

So many of my students have overcome many obstacles in their lives and their ability to just keep working and striving for success is so inspiring.

For a lot of my students, success means being the first in their families to graduate high school and going on to attend college. The students who choose to challenge themselves and take AP classes are working to prepare themselves for college and careers in a way that sets them apart from others their age.

Our students are dedicated, passionate, and excellent problem solvers. However, more than half of our students come from low-income households. Our parents are wonderfully supportive, but there just is not enough money to adequately fund what we do.

My Project

Research (capital R) is complicated. So much goes into the students' year-long process.

Research is messy, help our students make sense of the chaos!

We want to help them organize their goals, planning, and reflections with bullet journals. This will help kids with all kinds of learning styles as there are a myriad of ways to utilize them. The dot grid format will allow them to set up their journals however it makes sense for them, making it a tool that will really be helpful in keeping track of everything. Plus, it allows for more visual components and revising, which suits the research process.

Our sticky note posters will help them practice their presentation skills in preparation for their defense at the end of the year. We want our students to become confident presenters of their research and one way we are planning on doing that is to have them practice...all the time! These posters will allow for both formal and informal presentation styles so that by the time students defend their research, presenting will just be a habit for them.

The research process involves a lot of resources. Our students will gather scholarly articles, notes, designs, feedback, and more. The envelopes will help them keep track of their materials throughout the year so that they can always go back and reference their materials.

We really believe in setting up our students for success. We are excited to see the ways in which they will transform into researchers, each pursuing their own passions and becoming the experts on their topics. Help us give them the materials that will allow them to focus on the big stuff, instead of worrying about the little things!
