Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My class is a 2nd grade inclusion class filled with children that are bright, loving, and eager to learn every day. However, the need to move and fidget often gets in the way of their learning. The hope is to find a way to accommodate their antsy 2nd grade bodies while feeding their hungry 2nd grade minds.

We are so very excited to start our year together on the right foot, and having flexible seating will be a big part of that.

My Project

Having these flexible seating options in my classroom meets my students' need to move and fidget in a way that isn't disruptive to others and allows them to continue their learning. I also believe that the flexible seating will contribute to behavior because students will be less likely to get up and down from their seats if the urge to move is already being met. Many of my students also need the feeling of moving their bodies, hands, and legs to concentrate. Flexible seating will hopefully help in that area as well. Lastly the floor desks will be perfect for those students for whom the chair is all together a distraction.
