Help me give my students books such as Laundry Day, Hug Machine, and Llamaphones to improve their speech and language, communication, vocabulary, reading, and writing skills.
"One of the hardest things in life is having words in your heart that you can't utter." James Earl Jones
I have the pleasure of working with amazing students that are learning to communicate and understand the world around them.
I provide speech and language services to students in the general education setting as well as the special education setting. Unfortunately, the special education budget has been cut in half. My students have speech and language impairments. Some also have severe disabilities, intellectual disabilities, developmental delays, learning disabilities, other health impairments, emotional disturbances, Down Syndrome, and autism. 51% of our students receive free to reduced price lunch due to the high poverty level of my school. Their exposure to language at home may be limited. My speech and language students come to school eager to learn and communicate with everyone!
My Project
My students need books and stories such as Laundry Day, Hug Machine, The Word Collector, and Llamaphones to provide examples of vocabulary and language skills to communicate with peers and adults.
My students will be able to learn letters, letter sounds, and vocabulary to function in the community with their communication, reading, and writing.
In addition, children's books can be adapted to show sight words, vocabulary, or drill words for students to individualize their learning.
The children's books will allow the students to engage the students in a magical learning place. Literature makes drill practice and learning fun and exciting.
