My students need hands-on alphabet activities to capture their attention and build a strong literacy foundation. This includes LEGOs, geoboards, and alphabet stamps.
Meet Miss Heuiser's Happy Campers! Eighteen kindergartners walk through my door each day excited to learn and grow together through hands-on learning activities. Through participation in these activities, my kinders develop cognitive and social skills, language abilities, as well as acquire a strong foundation in the knowledge and skills for school success.
My school is a Title I school located in a rural area with approximately 450 students who come from a variety of backgrounds and ethnicity, some of whom are homeless or in foster care, and many who come from families that serve at our local military bases.
My Project
Teaching the alphabet to kids is the key step in preparing them to read and write. My project, The ABC's of Kindergarten, will provide my students with engaging hands-on activities that teach all aspects of the alphabet. For example, my young learners can create letters on mats using Lego Bricks, reproduce letters on the geoboards, and stamp out the letters of the alphabet one letter at a time using the stamp pad set and alphabet stamps. These activities attract and capture my students’ curiosity as well as help them make connections to the letters of the alphabet through active and meaningful experiences that excite them to learn more. No room for worksheets and flash cards here!
Make learning fun and the kids love learning - Mission Accomplished!
The children believe they're just playing when actually they're absorbing knowledge and growing in pre-reading and writing skills. My project provides teaching tools that will play a critical role in helping my students learn the alphabet and build a strong literacy foundation.
