We are growing leaders with the guidance of Sean Covey's "The 7 Habits of Happy Kids," but we lack the resources needed to share the great life lessons we are learning.
I teach a class of 21 energetic 4th grade students in a rural school in North Carolina.
Many students at the school receive free/reduced lunch and struggle to fulfill basic needs on daily basis. School is the best part of the day for many students. My class consists of students on achievement levels ranging from 2nd to 5th grade. Three students have special needs and two students are on special behavior plans. The class loves collaborating in groups and shares an eagerness to learn.
My Project
"The 7 Habits of Happy Kids" has transformed the learning environment in my classroom as my students are gaining leadership skills to last a lifetime. My students want to continue to grow as leaders by teaching other classes how to practice the habits. Teachers at my school are interested, but are having trouble knowing where to begin or finding the time. We only have one book to share. My students would like collaborate by pairing up to teach a class to spread these leadership skills throughout the entire school. Their enthusiasm for The 7 Habits is contagious and would yield terrific results among all our students.
My students need 15 copies of, "The 7 Habits of Happy Kids" to grow as leaders as they "learn by doing." They will bring The 7 Habits into the classrooms across the school to learn and practice ways of living that lead to great success in the future.
This will have a huge impact to the learning process that takes place not only in my classroom, but classrooms throughout the entire school.
