My students are 100% big potential. I believe their future is wide open and they can achieve whatever they choose to work for. My students live in La Conner, Washington and face the challenges of two small independent communities connected by a bridge.
This is a place of significant diversity and a large percentage of under privileged kids.
The majority of my students do not get access to meaningful, life empowering technology that has the power to change their lives other than at school. Where there is technology access it is based on idle consumption and not on constructive creative uses that open doors to a meaningful future.
I try to change that with my 259 students. My goal is that kids learn productive uses of technology and by doing that opening doors to a more meaningful future filled with choices and opportunity - 100% potential.
Our statistics:

37% Native American
47% Kids of Color
100% Big Potential
My Project
We are planning to add a low cost laser cutter so that kids can learn how to design for the real world and in so doing take our Maker Space to the next level. To do so we need Corel Draw (Not offered for the Mac).
We intend to teach the design process on our computers and use a PC running Corel Draw to make the interface complete.
We will design a solution to the problem on our Mac computers, create it with the help of the PC, test and try out our design, and then refine and make it better!
Our Mac computers will run the a drawing program and send those design drawings to the PC running Corel Draw. That PC controls the laser cutter. With Corel Draw software, we can make the cutter work!
