The 102 Crew Loves Games to Make Learning Come Alive!
Help me give my students the gift of learning through games! I love having my students on the computer but there is something so special about gathering around a board game and actually manipulating and moving the pieces.
My students are endearing. I'll never forget being outside playing a tag game for P.E. and one of my students fell down. Every single one of my students ran clear across from the opposite direction to aide their fallen classmate. It was puzzling, remarkable and plain endearing.
It was a battle to win my students' approval that I was trustworthy to lead the pack and get my students to work and focus on direct instruction.
They work together and if they are resistant they are a force to be reckoned with and when they feel cared for they are a team through and through. I want my students to have access to direct instruction that can be supported through fun and purposeful games, math and reading games especially!
My Project
My students will build their number sense through playing Sequence, collaboration with Difficult Riddles, and strategic thinking and strengthened word usage through the games listed.
My hope is that on Fridays students will first write about what game they will play, with whom and where.
This encourages students to explain and utilize writing to convey their plan. I want to open up a world of possibility and collaboration for my students and I believe games are where it's at.
My students will build confidence with strengthening their spelling abilities and add to their applied vocabulary knowledge. They will grow in their Math concepts all while having a blast!
