My students need literature that helps me teach them important life skills, coping skills, and decision making skills to help them interact and cooperate with others.
A child's first grade year is so exciting! They know how the whole school thing works and they come in ready to learn how to read and become mathematicians. In our class of 20 students, we have a wonderful mix of backgrounds that add to the sparkle in our room.
Witnessing their understanding grow of how letters and numbers work is magical!
Students are on different levels of understanding but they are growing and that's what matters. Giving them the tools and resources to help them be all they can be and reach their potential is an important goal of mine!
My Project
Knowing how to successfully handle situations and interactions with others in our daily lives in a kind and respectful way is not something that we are born doing. I can't wait to read books like "But It's Not my Fault" and "My Mouth is a Volcano" to help facilitate discussion and generate gray area in my student's black and white world. They will understand the impact their words and actions have on others.
Being proactive and using these books to teach my students the correct ways to handle situations and facilitate discussions about situations they have encountered or will encounter will have a measurable impact on their relationships with themselves and others.
My bigger goal is that by recognizing their responsibilities to themselves and others they will have an impact on their peers and families moving forward. They will be world changers and it will start in our classroom!
