Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Remember how sharing a book with a friend helped you to remember and appreciate the contents? Our student reading groups also need to experience the enjoyment of sharing a book while at the same time being challenged to get the facts and to understand biographical nonfiction.
Our school is located in Southern Arizona.
Students' reading levels vary greatly. Like so many students across the nation, my wonderful 26 students are in need of multi-copies of new reading materials to share with each other while learning the facts and distinguishing between main idea and details.
My Project
These new and interesting resources will enhance the students' awareness of the famous people in their country. They will enjoy reading together in groups of 5, discussing main ideas and details, planning and presenting their findings to the class. They will become engaged readers and better prepared to meet the National Core Reading Standards in nonfiction.
All hard work and mastery become easier when shared with others.
With multi-copies of 5 books for each title, our reading groups will gain confidence by reading together for facts, main ideas and details. The students will add their own voice to their reading experience, learn to work cooperatively, and share their opinions about the biographies read.
