My students are part of a Title I school, are often English learners, are from low socioeconomic families and have learning difficulties. Education, learning and the future is not a priority, yet each one wants to do well and be happy.
Through tools, tricks and technology these students are able to learn and perform and deserve this opportunity to show their capabilities.
Through class lessons, personal exploration and understanding, I try to teach my students that they are equal and able to reach the same goals as their peers.
My student's need someone next to them all day and every day reminding them of what to do, where to go, and what homework they have. Unfortunately that is not a possibility for my Title I school, so I've opted to provide my students with the low tech alternate of an academic planner. Through my study skills an tutorial class, I have required the students to complete their planners daily. Not only does this habit help the students to pass their classes it helps me support them too. By documenting what happened in each class I am able to see what topics are being discussed, what concepts are presented and anticipate what projects will be assigned.
