This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in an early childhood special education classroom, in a school district, in a low-income neighborhood. Being a self-contained classroom, it is low in number but high in need of support. There can be up to five students enrolled in this classroom, each requiring adult assistance to get basic needs met.
Each child that enters my classroom is delayed in several domains.
Students that enter this classroom are often delayed in their verbal skills, self-help skills, physical skills, and cognitive skills. Children learn through basic sign language, songs, movement, visuals, and play.
My Project
The students in my classroom are trying to utilize instruction through a webcam but webcam alone, cannot address their IEP goals efficiently.
With learning from home, getting resources into the hands of my students is more important than ever.
The materials included in this project will go into the task boxes that students are working on from home. Each week, materials are swapped, sanitized, and quarantined before passing them onto another family. In order to provide a week's worth of learning material, the classroom is in need of more supplies to add to the rotation. The sound books will help engage students, build language skills, and work on their finger isolation. The fine motor tasks will help engage students, give them variety of materials, and develop hand-eye coordination.
