My Project

A couple of years ago, my school purchased a Glowforge laser printer for our makerspace. With the press of a button, you can see a sheet of plastic be cut into tiny pieces or engrave your school's emblem on laptops. This is one of the most fun pieces of technology that is in our makerspace. While the laser cutter can cut many different materials, acrylic is one of the prettiest and most versatile materials.

There is a bit of a learning curve with using the Glowforge, and we need a variety of materials for our students to learn on.

With these sheets of acrylic, my students will be making a variety of items, including jewelry, signs, and gaming pieces. They are able to apply what they have learned in math, science, and computer classes, to create their ideas. It is so rewarding to see a student's ideas come to life. Many students doubt their idea will look very good, but when they see the finished product- their face brightens and they become more confident with their next idea! When they get complimented on their creation, they can say, "Thanks, I lasered it!"
