My students need a keyboard to accompany them at their Christmas and spring programs and the rehearsals for those programs, so they can give the best performances possible.
Each day, in my music classroom, I interact with over 150 students, ages four through eleven. I teach different students each day of the week. I am lucky to be able to call 670 students "mine."
We sing, dance, listen, and play together.
Some come from musical families; some do not. Some love to be in the spotlight; others part of the chorus. All of them, though, are bound to find something they enjoy about the performing arts in music class.
My Project
My students perform musical programs a total of eight times each school year, including three separate Christmas programs performed for their classmates and again for our community, and a spring program performed for both as well. They practice with the electric piano, in the music room, and then move to the gym for their performances. The layout of our school does not allow for the electric piano from the music room to be moved to the gym, so we need a separate instrument for our final program rehearsals and performances.
Live keyboard accompaniment gives us the advantages of musical flexibility and practice for future musical endeavors.
We are asking for donations for a Yamaha P-255 88-key digital piano to replace the old, outdated keyboard we've been using for over a decade. Along with the digital piano, we would purchase a stand, bench, and sustain pedal. The digital piano will be put in storage during times of the year when it is not being used, so we will also purchase a semi-hard case on wheels to protect the piano and a 5-year repair plan in case any damage occurs.
