This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
Are you interested in closing the achievement gap? Would you like to help inspire and teach the next Einstein, DaVinci, W.E.B. DuBois, or Madame Curie? Well, with a donation towards a quality leveled library, you can! I teach kindergarten in a high-need urban charter school in New York. My students will enter the classroom this year eager to learn to read and practice their new skills with interesting, quality, authentic texts.
Unfortunately, my new classroom is seriously lacking in literature. I want to ensure that the students are reading books that both meet their educational needs and increase their interest in a variety of subject matter, and I need your help!
Books chosen for children at their reading levels can help me to differentiate instruction, peak student interest in a variety of topics, and increase young readers' abilities to read fluently and with strong comprehension. A group of math picture-books will allow me to bring literacy into math lessons and a strong set of non-fiction leveled books will invite children to explore their world during independent and guided reading times. I'm also requesting a set of science picture-books that focus specifically on the children themselves, as well as some mixed fiction and non-fiction leveled books to help children grow to love reading.
My classroom doors will open in September to twenty kindergarten students ready to learn and your donations can help ensure they have the ability to do so!
