Textbooks for Piano Lab

My beginning piano students need 25 text books for the beginning piano lab offered both semesters at my school.

Providing a strong, curriculum-based environment is key to the success of any music classroom. Currently, our beginning piano lab does not have the necessary texts to provide this environment. As a music educator teaching band, piano, and music appreciation to high school students, a lack of texts has proven to be a major obstacle.

My beginning piano lab has grown from 6 students to 15 students in one year. In a 1A school, growth of this magnitude is rare and yet we currently do not have the text books to provide a proper curriculum. In 2008, our district adopted new music texts across the board. Unfortunately, piano was not included in this textbook adoption. Further, all music text adoption was cut during the summer of 2008 due to budget cuts at the state level. The lack of text books for the piano class, unfortunately, has been passed onto the student. Students are required to pay a class fee of $35 for the semester. Numerous students have come to me concerned about their ability to afford the class fee but remain enrolled in the class.

As beginning piano students at the high school level, an appropriate, all-in-one adult piano text is important in nurturing and developing their musical talents. A classroom set of texts would allow my students to participate in the piano class without the worry of a class fee, thus allowing my music program to service even more students.

Your help will allow my current students and future students to explore and develop their musical curiosity and talents. Life long lessons such as persistence, trial and error, team work, as well as the development of musical understanding and performance ability will be better available to my students with your help.
