My Students

One of five middle schools in our city, our school is a bustling community of learners offering many opportunities to learn, share, grow, and develop into solid citizens. My Social Studies students come from diverse backgrounds and have a diversity of learning styles.

One thing, however, is true for all of my students: They love interactive online activities!

The more access to the interactive maps, simulations, and other inquiry-based learning activities they have in the classroom the better.

By utilizing the digital tools available to them like online textbooks (Tech Books), Google Classroom, and other interactive web-based curriculum resources, students are not only acquiring knowledge of the world around them, but also honing their 21st century skills of working collaboratively, thinking critically, and solving real world problems. Good Social Studies classrooms=Good Citizens!

My Project

Our school district subscribes to a digital text book (Tech Book) for all middle school Social Studies classes. The Tech Book, published by Discovery Education (DE) uses an inquiry-based approach, and includes access to a wide range of maps, videos, images, interactive learning activities, and other resources. In addition, our district has made a big push toward using Google Classroom as a resource for students and teachers.

In order to take full advantage of new digital curriculum, students need online access in the classroom.

Chromebooks in the classroom will help students gain access to the Social Studies curriculum. They will also assist students as they try to manage all their Google Classes online.
