My students need headsets with a microphone. This will enable them to record themselves reading using a scientific, research-based program proven to make students better, more accurate readers.

My Students

Nepal, Congo, Mexico, Guatemala, Burundi... Our classroom is full of diverse English language learners. These students come to third grade at a variety of speaking, reading, and listening levels.

Eighteen students, seven languages... Our high poverty, high-achieving classroom is a snapshot of everything that is good in the world.

It is not uncommon to greet a student from Mexico in Swahili, and receive a response in Swahili as well. We are so blessed to have such a diverse and engaged group of students. Not only do these students come to third grade from all over the world, but from all over the map socioeconomically.

As a miniature United Nations, we have so many strengths, and so many needs as well. Will you help us grow even more?

My Project

We are fortunate to have a reading program that helps these students become better readers. This program records their reading, it tracks the amount of words the students can read in a minute, as well as tracking the accuracy of their reading. We have seen great success with this program.

We need your help... although we are fortunate enough for each student to have their own laptop, we aren't as lucky when it comes to our headsets.

Right now we are stuck sharing around 6 headsets for every 100 students. With around 100% of our student population falling below the poverty line, we rely heavily on outside support. You can imagine how limiting this is.

The third graders in our room would be so grateful for your support in meeting this need!
