My students have a brand-new school that is absolutely wonderful. Many students come to school to learn, but also have to deal with things outside of school that no third grader should have to experience. I want their experience at school to be one they will always remember and have students know that school is a safe, happy place where they know that they are loved and cared for. Students should be able to come to their new, beautiful school and have the best experience possible.
My Project
Every year, our third grade students are taking state standardized testing for the very first time. Lots of nerves and anxiety fill the room each spring from the students not knowing what to expect. I am asking for materials like number bars to practice equivalent fractions, math dice, prefix and suffix review cards, and Olympic themed decorative items to make the classroom become an Olympic training facility for only the best third graders around!
In order to create a positive, engaging learning environment, students will participate in test prep olympics.
Each table group will represent a country and practice various reading and math skills to earn points and compete against the other countries. Students can also earn points for being good teammates, helping out others who may need extra help, and using accountable talk. The students alway thrive off of thematic lessons, so they stay engaged and get excited about what they are learning. All of the materials that I have requested will help turn my classroom into a Olympic training ground. One huge part of a student's success on a state test is confidence, by competing in test prep olympics, students will feel more confident and comfortable to take their test.
