Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This very diverse class brings me such joy! We have 5 languages, 7 races, and a variety of religions represented. Our district is in a low-income suburb where over 50% of our students receive free or reduced-cost breakfast and lunch.
This group has genuinely good hearts, working collaboratively with few issues (outside of the occasional 10-year-old annoyance)!
They have created their own class charter to ensure we feel safe, challenged, and respected. I want to do everything I can to help them succeed and thrive in college and their careers!
My Project
With such diversity in our classroom, it is even more important that students learn and practice tolerance for others unlike themselves. As part of our WWII unit and our biography unit, our social-emotional unit begins to explore our concepts of self and how we view others. Students uncover what a huge impact this has on our political and historical decisions.
Help create more tolerant and empathetic members of our community with these books.
Our RULER social-emotional curriculum also focuses on how emotions and mindfulness affect the brain and our life goals. Books on growth mindset will set them up for success beyond school. These books would help me teach these topics!
