My Students

My students are beginning their third grade school year in a high poverty, urban school in northern New Jersey.

They are outgoing, creative, and willing to learn. But not all of the students have daily access to reading and writing materials outside of the classroom.

My Project

Reading and writing skills are essential for my students to practice every single day. The writing folders will help each of my students visualize where they are in the writing process. The comprehension journals will assist my students not only with reading skills but also with writing. They have a chance to read stories and analyze and respond to questions. The Scholastic magazines will give my students a chance to take reading material home every week.

Students will become better readers by writing more and better writers by reading more.

Reading and writing go hand in hand and all of these materials will benefit my students by enabling them to become better readers and writers through engaging activities.
