This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 20 students ages 6-7 years old. They love to learn. They are in need of more hands on math manipulatives. This will help them develop number sense. My children live in an inner city. They come to school without the basics needed to be successful. They are eager to learn, but need the tools to be successful. These hands on manipulatives will help them "see the numbers" in a way that will help them be more successful in math.
My Project
Base ten is the foundation for counting and understanding numbers. This starts before kindergarten but is especially critical in first grade. By learning ten as an anchor, students are more likely to be successful in all areas of math.
These boards will allow the students to create problems with ten.
They will also reinforce tens and some more during rug time. These will allow the students to interact during whole group lessons instead of just being observers. The ten frame dice will be able reinforce these skills during individual center time. Together, these supplies will make rounding learning in base ten.
