Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a high school teacher, I'm constantly aware of the approaching departure of my students into the adult world. Many of them are preparing for college, finding jobs, and thinking about their futures in concrete ways for the first time. While there is definitely a broad range, many of my students receive free or reduced price lunch.
Because of their economic status, large numbers of my students feel disadvantaged as they transition out of high school.
They work hard to learn and succeed. What motivates me as a teacher is giving every student the chance to use professional tools and equipment to make something that they're proud of.
My Project
We are building structures in the Physics shop that rely on tension to support human weight. In order for the furniture to be safe for human use we will need some professional grade tension equipment, such as the wires, turnbuckles and screw eyes included in this project
There's no better way for students to learn and show off their learning in Physics than by building something in the real world.
By helping fund the hardware of these furniture projects you will be helping students to apply their knowledge of physics to build full scale tension furniture.
