My students need may things, the Gamma Ballhopper EZ travel cart is most urgent need as it would allow us to transport balls 12 miles to our practice facility.
As a small economically disadvantaged high school in Southwest Virginia, we struggle daily with the economic downturns of the coal industry. Our enrollment is around 315 students, grades 8-12 and we service over half our school population with free or reduced lunches. Our students are of all races, all backgrounds, all types of home situations from single parent to multiple parents to grandparents to foster parents. Our students do not participate in just one activity. They participate in many activities as diverse as sports to theatre to public speaking to clubs to public service: The list goes on and on! Our students are encouraged to become involved in as many events as possible.
My girls, my tennis team, are not just my players, they are a large part of my life and I am a large part of their lives.
They uplift me with their desire to be the best players, the best students, and the best future members of our small mountain community.
My Project
My tennis team is full of young ladies who want to win. They work hard every chance they get, which isn't as often as they'd like.
In order for us to practice we travel 12 miles to a local college or find other local courts that are available.
Two years ago our school removed our tennis courts with the intention of replacing them. To make a long story short, funding fell through and the courts were never replaced.
The Gamma Ball Cart is easy to transport and would keep our practice balls from rolling around in the back of my vehicle (our "storage locker"). The ball tubes will speed up our ball pick up time to allow more time to practice, instead of picking up balls, while we have some court time. Finally, the score tubes will allow us to have score cards no matter what courts we call home for any given match.
