Hi, I'm a fifth grade teacher at P.S 202 in the East New York Section of Brooklyn. My class has been studying the history of New York in preparation for the 5th grade social studies exam. They really enjoyed learning about their city's history. I feel that it is important for students to see the world outside their community and learn about all the wonderful things that New York City has to offer. In order to give students an opportunity to learn about how life was 100 years ago, I would like to take my class on a trip to the Lower East Side Tenement Museum. This museum offers the students an opportunity to see what life would have been like for a child living in New York City around the turn of the century. The students are able to touch objects and ask questions from a guide in costume, making the experience come to life. They will then be able to compare and contrast life today and life back then.
