Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school has economically disadvantaged kindergarten through fifth students who cannot afford basic necessities. We have a student body that is over 85 percent free or reduced-priced lunches. We also have a backpack program in which the students get nourishing foods to take home for holidays and weekends to ensure that they eat while away from us. We are very fortunate to have a wonderful report with our students. They are well behaved and love to learn. They may come to school disadvantaged and from home stricken with poverty, but they surely make up for it in the effort that they display in their learning.
My Project
Creating digital content in the primary grades is a skill that I wish to help my students design, create, and learn.
My students and I want to become story tellers with virtual reality and stop motion animation.
CoSpaces (a VR Authoring Tool) is an amazing software where students can create virtual reality worlds. Our exciting project will consist of learning how to take what we are learning across the content areas in a full 360 degrees. Students will be totally immersed in a world of their making. They will become the creators of digital content and the stories that they tell will demonstrate a mastery of the skills we learn together. At the center of all of these creative worlds that students design is an amazing experience that await: we are actually going to be able to explore these worlds together with the Oculus Rift and ASUS computer system. We will also be able to create stop motion animation stories that can be uploaded into our stories. We will use Lego Story Time Bricks, mini figure sets, Kluttz Lego Moving Making sets to demonstrate different cycles and how they change like how seasons change, the water and rock cycle changes over time, and add them to our virtual worlds too. We can create sequences for novels and the include characters that we study.
We can even make interactive charts and graphs to collect and analyze data from our experiments and actually walk the graphs in virtual reality. We will use our Storytelling Games to help us become better story tellers and make it easier to develop skills of Digital Story Making. I cannot think of any other way to allow my students to become completely engaged and immersed in their learning.
