Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need some hands-on manipulatives to learn math in a more concrete way during our small group instruction. Our school is located in a low socioeconomic area of the city, but that doesn't determine the hopes and goals our students have for themselves.

Eighty percent or more of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch, and they have parents with two jobs to support their families.

We have a variety of ethnic groups and home languages.

Our students are eager to learn. They come to school every day with great attitudes despite what happens at home. They want to go to college and be successful. Statistics show that our students are most at risk of failure and dropping out.

Don't let academic success pass by these great kids. Students who come from very diverse homes need to build their self-confidence to be successful in life. Teaching kids in poverty implies the need to express how successful they are being during their learning. We need to provide positive feedback all the time.

My Project

We need a way to have materials accessible to all our students. Bookshelves and wood trays will allow us to have stations for my students to have access to math manipulatives to better learn how to add and subtract.

COVID has left some big gaps.

Many of my students didn't go to preschool or kinder. These Montessori materials will help them understand many concepts from those grades.

The book boxes will allow me to differentiate for all my students who are so excited to learn how to read in English and Spanish.
