As a Reading/Writing teacher in the 7/8 grade, I am always on the lookout for projects that will inspire my students to become excited not only about the subject I teach but also about how they can use what they learn and apply it to the world around them. For example, this year as a Language Arts project my students studied advertising and the different "hooks" that companies might use to get someone to buy their product. As a final project my students had to create their own product AND commercial and present it to the class. It was hysterical! The students had a great time creating their props, dialog, and their costumes. The best part of the project was that my English as a Second Language Students were also able to participate and enjoyed the experience. I filmed their commercials using my video camera and promised the student we would watch them together. However, it is difficult sharing a television with multiple teachers. I think that when students get the feedback that comes from being able to watch their performances, they really get excited about what we might be doing next in class. Thank You!
