As students shuffle in each period, they peruse the bookcases scattered about the room looking for new books to read during the first ten minutes of class.
My academic freshman attend a public high school that no longer has a librarian, and thus, no access to recently published books.
My students want to read books about current issues, books people are talking about now--books that are quickly becoming box office hits. They want a book that will snag them from page one and not let them go until the very end. They want to read a book that they simply cannot put down, one they can't stop thinking and talking about.
My Project
YALSA (the Young Adult Library Services Association) has just published the list of top ten books of 2013 that teens across the nation voted as their favorites. We want these books so we too, can read and fall in love with them. These books will be shared with each class so students can check them out and read them during the morning reading period and beyond. They are sure to be a huge hit and if we are lucky, these books will inspire a life-long love of reading!
Your donation will make it possible for my students to have the latest favorites of teens nationwide.
Not only will they then have access to books recently published but they will get to discuss them with their friends and peers in class which will hopefully encourage even more students to read them. These books will no doubt quickly become favorites that will be read throughout all my classes for years to come.
