Help me give my students a culturally rich and interesting year of reading. The books selected have themes with their U.S. History class, ELA and current situations teens face.
I teach at a high school in a small rural district. Our high school specializes in teaching students with special needs. Our building is small enough that everyone knows everyone. These students do not have much of a chance to explore the world past the edges of our county. Many of the students come from single parent homes and are not provided with opportunities to learn outside of school. My mission is to provide them with exciting, fun activities and learning in school.
My students are excited about learning, creating, and challenging their minds.
This is where they learn about teamwork, determination, and learning new strategies. They can use these skills in school and outside of school. I want to continue the opportunity to develop their skills during our day together no matter what subject we are learning!
My Project
These book choices will help my high school students read about situations teens have faced in the past and are facing today. They will be able to discuss how to handle situations and predict outcomes good or bad.
The books also theme with their U.S.
History class. This way the students will be able to blend English, writing reading and history into one idea. Novels are a great way to get students to discuss and share ideas. Collaboration is a great skill for students to develop.
Allowing these students the opportunity to read and learn in an enjoyable way if rewarding to everyone.
