My students need an iPad to be able to keep track of mile laps and keep up with Fitness Gram scores. The iPad will be used to track blood pressure and heart rate as well as provide apps related to health.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students start class by running laps that accumulate to reach their lap goals to earn a prize, then we do a lesson. By the end of the school year I want my students to understand the importance of fitness and that it's easy to obtain. My biggest challenge is lack of equipment and space for PE.
My school is a Title one charter public school that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
The school teaches grades kindergarten through fifth. The students here are very intrigued by the technology, which makes sense because the younger generation is extremely technology driven and savvy. Each core subject such as math, science, social studies, and ELA use many different apps on the iPads to help engage learning. These students are very eager to learn and they love doing so with the iPads. Almost every day a student tells me they downloaded an app on their iPad at home that they learned here at school. My school however is more focused on academic learning because we are a STEM school than they are with specials classes; physical education, library, music, art, and computers. Our students are so willing to learn that we teachers are trying to find different resources to help educate them in all aspects.
My Project
The state law requires Fitness Gram testing done twice a year; once in the fall and once in the spring. The Fitness Gram tests the five components of fitness; cardiovascular, flexibility, body composition, muscular strength, and muscular endurance. This test is for every student in the school. Also, my students are in school club called mighty milers. Each time they are in gym the first five minutes of class they run laps. These laps get added up and put into a spread sheet later that day or at the end of the week. After they reach the number of laps that equal a mile, they earn a little prize. Having the iPad will help to enter in the laps immediately so they are aware of their goals. Lastly, iPads have many apps that students can use that relates to health. There are many apps to help with breathing, food intake and information for parents and also sleep pattern tracking. All of these different things tie into fitness and health and can be use not only in gym but at home too.
My project to incorporate technology into Physical Education will help spark the interest in students.
It will teach them that they can use the iPad to engage in fitness and health. It is also beneficial for parents, by providing them with information on food and proper nutrition for their family. Because students use technology everyday why not use it to help increase fitness and health? If they are taught how to use it then they can not only use it at school but also at home with their family.
