My students need a technology upgrade. They need an iPad mini with case, a wireless keyboard, mice, and an updated pencil sharpener, in order to meet the objectives of this project.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students in my class attend a Title I school with a large population. My students come from a low-income and mostly Hispanic area. Many of the school community families have recently migrated from countries such as Cuba, Puerto Rico, Honduras, the Dominican Republic and many others. Most of these students do not have access to many things that other students have, such as technology or parents who have mastered the English language. Consequently, many of these students do not have the help at home that they need.
Most of the students in my class receive free or reduced-price lunch.
Many students also come from single-parent families. Regardless of the challenges before them, most of these students have a hunger to learn!
This fall, our school community was struck by the effects of several hurricanes, as well as other storms, and most of our school families were impacted in one way or another. Some experienced structural damage to their homes causing them to relocate, and others experienced flooding, some damage and loss of power. Regardless of the damage, families were affected in many different ways. Many of the students lack English proficiency and are acquiring the English language.
My Project
My students are eager learners, who have a thirst for incorporating technology into their daily lives. They learn best when engaging in hands-on activities, creating projects, presentations and taking advantage of the many educational online resources available to them through our school system. However, our classroom is deficient in up-to-date technology.
It is very difficult for the students, to take full advantage of technological advances when our hardware is constantly failing.
The materials being requested in this project, would greatly improve this situation! The iPad, along with the wireless keyboard and mice, will enable students to perform research, create presentations and engage in a multitude of online reading and math and science resources available through our school system. Our classroom pencil sharpener is outdated and not working properly, so when planning our class project, the students enthusiastically suggested that we should include one as part of our project. The iPad and case will be used by students when engaging in research projects and presentations. Together, these materials will enable the students to perform research and tap into a wide range of online programs and to create presentations. The materials will provide my students with an opportunity to actively engage in their learning in a fun, interactive way.
