Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are young and energetic! They come to school with the determination to learn and make friends. They are caring and strong. Our school is in an urban area.
Many of my students live in poverty.
They struggle with having basic necessities, along with school supplies. Sometimes school is a place of refuge. They enjoy helping each other and me!
My students have continuously taught me just as much, if not more than I have taught them this year.
They have taught me unconditional love, that young people can be so supportive, and that success can be achieved with nothing more than determination and much more. I have such a great group of students!
My Project
My students have iPads that are issued to each of them. They bring these back and forth from home and school. At school, they use these for assignments and exams. The problem is- they have trouble remembering to charge them the night before. Many lose their chargers or loan them to their classmates and it is very challenging keeping up with them. A charging station would help us so much! Along with keeping their ipads charged, we have another dilemma.
My classroom was lucky enough to get headphones funded through Donors Choose!
They are awesome. I have tried letting them keep them in their desks, storing them in ziploc bags and keeping them in tubs. Nothing is working. The cords get tangled, they end up getting lost, and it takes so much time passing them out. I have a little closet that has a shower curtain rod in it and it would be a great place to store the headphones. My students would be able to have an individualized bag to store their headphones and this would prevent them from being damaged. Thank you so much!
