My students are members of a small rural community, many of whom face numerous challenges both at home and at school. These students have significant disabilities which can interfere with their daily lives. Time at school is focused on both academics and functional life skills.
When students enter my classroom, they come to me with an eagerness to learn, grow and be a valued member of our classroom.
If you were to enter my class, you would likely see students engaged in numerous activities. From small group instruction, to technology stations and independent work, my students are learning to be independent while following a routine. I work to deepen their independence by having them engage in independent learning activities using various forms of technology.
My Project
Everyday, my students participate in activities that require the use of technology. We have spent much time learning how to be 21st century learners who use technology properly. During this time, students have learned how we must care for our devices in order to make them last.
The students have quickly recognized there is nothing more frustrating than grabbing a device to find it has not been charged.
My students are continuing to work on being responsible by returning their devices to the designated location, plugging the devices in and attaching the necessary accessories. Providing my students with additional charging stations, accessories and storage options will allow them to continue to become responsible young adults.
