My students need Chromebooks to access online academic programs (like Khan Academy), practice computer skills, and see the world beyond our classroom door.
My 2nd grade classroom is full of motivated, excited, and creative learners. Because of the diversity of our community, many of my students face challenges in and out of the classroom. Many are second language learners who are often the only English speakers at home. Many are also on the reduced/free lunch program with one or both parents working two jobs to support them. They still come to school with a smile on their faces and ready to learn. I welcome them with open arms! I want to inspire them to reach higher than they imagined academically, to continue to love school, and to be kind and helpful members of their community.
My Project
Having Chromebooks in my classroom will allow my students to benefit from the programs we use to enhance learning. I have ELD students who need access to language programs to advance their learning of the English language. Most don't have access at home, and school is where they have the opportunity to use technology to further their language development in reading and writing.
My students were thrilled when I set up their Khan Academy accounts and started our LearnStorm classroom challenge, but I need the Chromebooks to support the math growth and differentiation for each student.
The students will be able to practice math skills they need to work on and grow more confident when they see the success from this practice, as well as push themselves to go beyond the grade level expectations.
Using these Chromebooks will allow my students the opportunity to become better readers, writers, and mathematicians, thus setting them up for future success. Funding of this project will help them get there.
